Rocky Peak Ridge
20'th highest peak in NY State with an elevation of 4,420 ft.
After hiking Giant Mountain we set out at about 1:30 pm to descend the back side of Giant and then ascend Rocky Peak Ridge, another high peak. We really didn't want to think about it but this was going to be the most strenuous part of our day so far.
The back side of Giant was even more rocky, steep, and slippery than the part we just climbed. The part we didn't dare to admit to ourselves was that with every step down we now took meant a step back up on the reverse trek out.
The descent down Giant was a killer. The ascent up Rocky Peak Ridge all things considered was not nearly as grueling. Unfortunately the way we decided to get to RPR meant we had to climb Giant first. On the plus side the views from the summit of RPR were even better than on top of Giant and a true 360 degree view in all directions. Again the day was spectacular and we got some great pictures in all directions and of the other high peaks as far as the eye could see.

Next came the descent off of RPR and then the dreaded ascent of Giant again only to descent Giant back to our cars in the lot on 73. I was the last one in our party to get down the mountain and finally signed out at 7:30 pm. By this time we were all hungry and thirsty and anything would have seemed good. In spite of that we went to a first rate restaurant for dinner at the Lake Placid Pub. The night before wasn't a great night of sleep but tonight I don't think a bear could wake me!
